User experience research, design and testing answers key questions for your organization:
I've known Paul since he moved to Dallas about 12 years ago and founded the D/FW Chapter of the Usability Professionals' Association and became its first President; an office I myself would later assume not long after he joined the UPA National.
I've known Paul since he moved to Dallas about 12 years ago and founded the D/FW Chapter of the Usability Professionals' Association and became it's first President; an office I myself would later assume not long after he joined the UPA National Board.
Our universes have overlapped in several ways since. He approached me in 2005 about contributing to his book Usability Success Stories: How Organizations Improve by Making Easier-to-use Software and Web Sites (Gower Publishing, 2006) and we've since remained good friends and associates regardless of his changes in location.
Paul is a singular talent in terms of thought leadership and practical engagement. His objective and pointed observations have been a source of giudance and healthy debate. While he cares deeply about the affect UX has on the applications people use every day, he is a solid professional who doesn't let passion get in the way of reason. He brings both genuineness and an unassuming wisdom to whatever he does and you can always expect him to be doing something worthwhile whether it's his latest contract project or sharing his knowledge and experience in the classroom.
I count myself fortunate to have him as a friend and colleague and any firm that secures his services will be truly fortunate as well.
Paul established UCD at Sage. He built the usability lab, established the team, and evangelized usability across the company. There are now UX teams across Sage North America, and I credit that to the strong UCD foundation that Paul established.
I enjoyed working with Paul--he is ever curious, always learning, and a true thought-leader for usability. His background in consulting gives him a good perspective on how a UCD group can serve the larger organization. Paul champions the user and makes the business more successful.
And, to top it off, Paul is extremely easy and fun to work with!
Paul Sherman excels not only in the art and science of user-centered design, but also in the justification and execution of it in established companies and with mature products.
When I worked with Paul at Sage Software, it was fairly straightforward for him to get colleagues to agree with the philosophy of leveraging user design principles. What Paul uniquely brought to the table was the ability to build the specific process and people around establishing the function in each business, and how to measure the benefit of applying the principles. This translated into real sales, revenues and customer satisfaction, and made UCD a vital part of strategy and differentiation going forward.
Paul is both an authority and a practitioner, and I've never worked with anyone better. Hire him as a consultant or an employee - it will provide an attractive ROI many times over.
